Lavenham and Bury St. Edmunds

Lavenham a town of crooked houses and the poem "There was a Crooked Man" and goes as follows:

There was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile,He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse. And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

Well, we didn't see the crooked sixpense, or the crooked cat and mouse...or the crooked man for that matter but we did see many crooked houses. Fun place to walk about.

The flowers are lovely. Large hanging baskets with many varieties of flowers and greenery. Baskets hanging off buildings, light posts and in boxes under windows. It was quite sunny and warm today, not a rain drop to be found.

Each village has it's own church, this one, St. Peter and St. Paul, was located at the far end of town in a very quiet setting. It was beautiful with lots of stained glass.

We just couldn't pass up the red telephone booth!

Then it was off to the ruin at the Abbey of St. Edmunds and the cathedral Church of St. James, Bury St. Edmunds. It was such a nice day we had lunch on the lawn before going to the cathedral.

Although the roses in the Old English Garden were almost done blooming, their fragrance still lingered.

Originally part of the complex of the great Abbey of St. Edmund, this church of St James was built with pilgrims in mind. St. James' became the Cathedral Church of Suffolk in the newly created Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich in 1914.

Kalai, Kenui, Marty and Heidi had a great time running around the ruins and posed here for a "Mt. Rushmore" look alike photo.

Tomorrow we are off to London! We are leaving at 7:00 am so I am off to go to sleep.
